Golf Back Swing
It is very important for a beginner to know that what a golf back swing is. What is its purpose and how the back swing action can be perfectly performed.
A successful shot can be achieved only if the ball is played correctly. Every shot is associated with the ball position. Before properly hitting the ball, a golfer has to take his club away from the ball so that he may hit as much forceful and in the right direction as he desired. This action of taking the clubs away from the ball is known as Golf Back Swing. This way the golfer accumulates his power for a good downswing.
The process of golf back swing is neither complicated nor difficult. Firstly you must have proper grip on the club and must be standing on the ground firmly to rotate your body with the movement of the club. A medium grip, neither too light nor too tight would be ideal. Your knees should be in a slight flexible position. The power behind every shot is the rotation of the body. The flexibility in the knees allows this rotation quite easily.
The body should be twisted backwards as you take the club away from the ball. Both arms should be kept straight while taking the club backwards, keeping a fixed distance between the club head and the hands. Bending of the arms too early will reduce distance which has to be corrected at the early stage of the golf back swing. While bringing the hands and the club high up to the waist and without rotating your hands, take the club back, making an arc. Upper body and the shoulders should also rotate with the club to make a coil of the body. This will help in generating the force needed for the impact. Some flexibility exercises for shoulders, hip and legs are needed to do the job in a proper manner.
The club should be taken to the maximum possible height, the ‘Top of the swing’; to let the speed of the club increase, as it is moved downwards. The position of the top of the swing differs from one person to another. There are some persons who cannot take the club as high as those who can take it parallel at the top. However, it does not make much difference. But the club must be taken to the highest maximum position.
In the end, the golf back swing should start with the hips and not the hands. There should not be any jerk to the club and it should have a smooth movement.
It is important that your golf back swing should start in the way explained above, so that all other movements are performed exactly in the required manner.
Missed shots are generally due to ignoring the above points. A wrong movement in the first part of the golf back swing may ruin your shot. Help of an experienced golfer may be taken and the back swing should be shown to him to find out any mistake made in your back swing action. Remember, practice makes the man perfect.
